Eco-Evolutionary Perspectives on Mixoplankton

چکیده

Mixotrophy, i.e., the capability of both phototrophy and phagotrophy within a single organism, is prominent trophic mode in aquatic ecosystems. Mixotrophic strategies can be highly advantageous when feeding or photosynthesis alone does not sustain metabolic needs. In current review, we discuss functional types mixotrophic marine protists (herein mixoplankton) context evolution. Permanent plastids have been established large due to gene transfer from prey and/or endosymbionts host cell. some kleptoplastidic mixoplankton, prior transfers active transcription plastid related genes help maintain extend retention kleptoplast. addition kleptoplasts, nucleus also sometimes retained actively transcribed even replicate kleptoplasts. Endosymbiotic relations vary considerably extent which hosts affect symbionts. For example, are heavily modified increase photosynthetic efficiency, controlled their cell division. It proposed that many kleptoplasts fact en route becoming permanent plastids. Conditions such as increased temperature limiting nutrients seem favor mixoplankton. However, responses mixoplankton changing environmental conditions like light irradiance, temperature, nutrient, availability variable species-specific. Studying mixotrophs with temporary could elucidate past future evolutionary mechanisms dynamics processes establishment (secondary)

Coexistence in a variable environment: eco-evolutionary perspectives.

A central question in community ecology is the means by which species coexist. Models of coexistence often assume that species have fixed trait values and consider questions such as how tradeoffs and environmental variation influence coexistence and diversity. However, species traits can be dynamic, varying between populations and individuals and changing over time as species adapt and evolve, ...

Eco-evolutionary dynamics.

Evolutionary ecologists and population biologists have recently considered that ecological and evolutionary changes are intimately linked and can occur on the same time-scale. Recent theoretical developments have shown how the feedback between ecological and evolutionary dynamics can be linked, and there are now empirical demonstrations showing that ecological change can lead to rapid evolution...

Eco–Evolutionary Dynamics on Deformable Fitness Landscapes

Conventional approaches to modelling ecological dynamics often do not include evolutionary changes in the genetic makeup of component species and, conversely, conventional approaches to modelling evolutionary changes in the genetic makeup of a population often do not include ecological dynamics. But recently there has been considerable interest in understanding the interaction of evolutionary a...

Evolutionary perspectives on schizophrenia.

The theory of evolution may be relevant to psychiatric disorders. Evolution reflects changes in genes throughout time. Thus, evolutionary forces can shape any phenotype that is genetically rooted and that possesses a long history. Schizophrenia is likely an ancient condition with a substantial genetic component. Since the 1960s, several researchers have applied evolutionary principles to the st...

Gillespie eco-evolutionary models (GEMs) reveal the role of heritable trait variation in eco-evolutionary dynamics.

Heritable trait variation is a central and necessary ingredient of evolution. Trait variation also directly affects ecological processes, generating a clear link between evolutionary and ecological dynamics. Despite the changes in variation that occur through selection, drift, mutation, and recombination, current eco-evolutionary models usually fail to track how variation changes through time. ...
